It is believed that the term ‘organic’ came into existence in 1940. It was introduced by Northbourne in the book Look to the Land where it referred to a farm with biological completeness and balanced organic life. Organic Certification can be applied to any business which directly deals with food production. The term organic is used as labeling term to certify that the product has been produced following certain approved methods. Environmentally friendly production methods are adopted for organic agriculture which help in conserving bio-diversity. The product is ensured to be safe. Certification is important as it helps to retain the credibility of the term ‘organic’.
